Jake and Tony, two guys who do not snowboard enough to hike to the top of Peak 8, made the hike to the top of Peak 8. To the left is a sign stating this is a point of no return. They were not good enough to continue, but sometimes Dead Penguin happens.
As the two guys sat, with legs dangled over the drop into the Easy Street, they discussed how to proceed. To them, the drop in looked like 20 feet even though it was 5 or 10 at the most. Jake dropped in, fell, collected himself and finished the run. It was only at this point that he could see all the exposed rocks in the mountain.
Tony did not experience the same fate. Once dropped in, he also fell and starting sliding into exposed rocky terrain. While Jake watched helplessly, he noticed the black hat, coat and pants with white covering on the center of his jacket. He looked like a penguin sliding to certain fate. Tony survived that day, but he will always be know as the Dead Penguin.
